About Sondra

Sondra Simmons Kretschmar is a multidisciplinary artist whose journey through loss, transformation, and renewal has shaped her profound understanding of how art can heal and preserve the most precious aspects of human experience. With over 30 years of professional artistic practice, Sondra has mastered diverse mediums including stained glass, oil and ink painting, sculpture, and collage, creating works that serve as luminous vessels for memory and meaning.

Following a pivotal personal loss in 2008, Sondra relocated to San Marcos, Texas, where art became her pathway to healing and renewal. This transformative experience ignited her passion for creating pieces that honor life's most significant moments—from celebrations of joy to memorials of love lost. Her background as a professional tattoo artist for over two decades has instilled in her a unique understanding of how art can mark and commemorate the most important chapters of our lives.

Sondra has become renowned for her ability to transform personal stories into breathtaking visual narratives. Her work often incorporates reclaimed glass from the San Marcos River, symbolizing how broken fragments can be reborn into something beautiful and whole.

Whether creating intimate portraits that capture the essence of a loved one, designing stained glass installations that honor family heritage, or crafting memorial sculptures that celebrate a life well-lived, Sondra's art serves as a bridge between memory and the present moment.
